Heat pump deployment statistics: December 2025
Summary
DESNZ expands its heat pump statistics to include all UK heat pump installations, not just those supported by government schemes. The department shifts from policy-specific deployment tracking to total market coverage for hydronic heat pumps up to 45kW. Statistics remain 'in development' status with methodology still being refined.
Why it matters
Redistributive programme measurement — tracks deployment of heat pumps that exist because electricity is expensive relative to gas. The expanded scope provides better market visibility but does not address the underlying cost differential that limits heat pump adoption.
Key facts
- •Coverage expanded to all UK heat pump installations rather than only DESNZ scheme-supported units
- •Focus on hydronic heat pumps up to 45kW capacity
- •Statistics remain 'official statistics in development' status

## Change to Heat Pump Deployment statistics release The latest release of the Heat Pump Deployment Official Statistics series took place on Thursday 12 March at 9.30am. In line with our ambitions to present as full a picture of total heat pump deployment in the UK, there will some changes to the statistics going forwards. From now on there will be increased coverage in the statistics, with ‘Total Retrofit UK Heat Pump’ deployment being presented, rather than only those heat pumps deployed with the support of DESNZ policies. Statistics about DESNZ low carbon heating schemes will continue to be available through their existing individual statistics releases, which have been linked below for ease. * [Boiler Upgrade Scheme statistics](https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/boiler-upgrade-scheme-statistics) * [Local Authority Delivery, Green Homes Grant Vouchers and Home Upgrade Grant statistics](https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/green-home-grant-statistics) * [Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund statistics](https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/social-housing-decarbonisation-fund-statistics) * [Energy Company Obligation statistics](https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/household-energy-efficiency-national-statistics) * [Domestic and Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive statistics](https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/renewable-heat-incentive-statistics) If you have any feedback on this statistics series, please contact: amelia.ash@energysecurity.gov.uk These heat pump deployment statistics provide information to monitor the number of hydronic heat pumps with a capacity up to 45kW installed in the United Kingdom. This data is published as ‘official statistics in development’ because these are a new statistics series and are still in development. The data is published to inform users about the levels of heat pump deployment and to enable user feedback, as well as further methodological development. The status of these statistics will be under regular review and may be subject to change in the future. Enquiries about these statistics should be directed to: amelia.ash@energysecurity.gov.uk
