Contracts for Difference: Stakeholder Bulletin 8 April 2020 Closing Date of the CfD AR4 Consultation On 2 March the government published the Contracts for Difference for Low Carbon Electricity Generation: Consultation on Proposed Amendments to the Scheme. The consultation set out proposed changes ahead of the next allocation round, Allocation Round 4 (AR4), which is planned to open in 2021. The consultation is scheduled to run for twelve weeks and is due to close on 22 May. Having reflected on the impacts of the current COVID-19 emergency and discussed with relevant trade associations, on balance we do not propose extending the current consultation deadline beyond this date. This is because in particular, the initial feedback we have had from a range of stakeholders has stressed the importance of maintaining the delivery of AR4 in 2021. We do, however, encourage you to get in touch if you have concerns about your ability to respond to this deadline as a result of the current public health emergency. Please email the CfD Team at BEISContractsforDifference@beis.gov.uk with any concerns. The Department continues to work towards the important objective of delivering Allocation Round 4 in 2021 to support the government’s decarbonisation objectives and further promote confidence in the renewables industry after the current COVID-19 emergency. We will keep the consultation deadline under review and will reassess the situation towards the end of the consultation period as is currently envisaged. Consultation Events Typically over the course of a consultation the Department would host a series of stakeholder events to give the opportunity to discuss consultation proposals further with BEIS. In light of current travel restrictions the Department will instead be hosting a number of online webinars. Further details on how and when to attend these will be sent out shortly, but in the meantime, you can contact the CfD Team at the email address above. We expect that events will take place in late April or early May.
